Should You Start Now for a Career in Aviation?

Becoming an Airline Pilot BookThe Timing Is Never Right!

For almost all the most important things in life, the timing always bites. It always seems that if it’s not one thing then it’s another.

Throw in there all this talk about the economy being “bad” and the current state of the airlines, and I can understand you not wanting to get into aviation and become a professional pilot.

But, here are a few reason why you should start becoming a pilot NOW:

  1. Nobody Is Going Into Flying Right Now

Everyone is scared silly about taking a chance on flying which means there are going to be fewer and fewer people becoming pilots. Everyone wants a “sure thing,” but as you know there are no sure things. If you take the chance, you are going to be at the front of the hiring line.

  2. Pilots Are Retiring

Yeah, the FAA changed the retirement age to 65 a few years back but now those pilots will be retiring soon. It will take you two to three years to get to the point of being employable, so if you start now you will again be at the front of the hiring line.

  3. People Will Keep Flying

There will never be a shortage of people flying. I think the airlines are going to be in a serious need for pilots soon because they aren’t hiring right now, pilots are retiring, and people are still flying. In typical airline fashion, maybe a year, maybe two years, there is going to be a hiring frenzy to meet the demand. Again, you can be at the front of the line, if you start now.

So if you’re waiting for something, like a good time to get in shape, or the right moment to take that trip , or the perfect conditions to take that first flight and start on your way to becoming a pilot…well…

ASA Private Pilot Test Prep Book…NOW is the best time!

Why?

Because, the stars will never all be aligned together and the traffic lights will never all be green at the same time. Sitting on the fence is NOT where you want to be. No, the world doesn’t have a thing against you, but it won’t go out of its way to help you either. We’ve been conditioned to be reactionary and not proactive. Those that are proactive will be doing what they want, like flying airplanes. Now is the best time to put your blinders on an FOCUS on becoming a pilot.

Obviously, YOU are the best person to help yourself. Only YOU can take action in order to achieve your goals and become a pilot. Yes, you WILL make mistakes. But who cares? You can’t change the past but you can move forward and help design your future.

So, if you’re worried about what will happen, do this little exercise…

Sit down and think of the absolute worst thing that can happen if you take your desired action. Think about this for a few days by replaying it over and over in your mind.

Yes it may be a little disheartening at first, but after you’ve run through it a few times and you’ve become comfortable with this scenario, think of how long it would take to fix any problems that arise. If you have any questions, take a Discovery Flight and talk to a flight instructor.

Now the worst case scenario rarely ever happens, but if you can live with what MAY happen, go ahead and just do it. You can simply fix any problems as you go.

Listen, the timing is rarely (if ever) right. Putting things off to “another day” is a disease that will steal your dreams and put you lower on the seniority list at the airline you want to work at. If it’s important to you, just do it and correct course along the way.

But, always have a backup plan just in case. Me, I have my military career and a master’s degree in “Management Information Systems” just in case. Many aren’t so fortunate. Start an online business like blogging or something that you can work on in your spare time.

Just don’t wait…you need to act now…

To Your Flying Success,

Jeffrey

Hi, this could never be more true. But I would like to ask, how can I finish my licenses (C/I/M), and I have around 260 flying hours as a private pilot, with the support of a flight school, and I am not a resident in the USA ?
o you know anyone who can support me?
    Good work and thank you.

It depends on what licenses and pilot certificates you are trying to get and what your ultimate goal is. If you are trying to go all the way, commerical ASEL and AMEL with Instrument privileges. Your best bet is to attend a school that can get you through fast. It won’t be cheap though. I would look at FlightSafety Academy to get a good picture of what the training curriculum, timeline, and costs, are going to be and then maybe shop around. When I went through flight training, I had the money for FlightSafety and they did a good job, but, like I said, they are expensive.

I believe that there are training VISA’s that you can apply for. Plus, I know that there are many flight schools that help you with this process and the financing. Either way, I would plan on submersing yourself in the training to get it over as quickly as possible so that you can move on.

    I hope that helps…
